PrePlate
About PrePlate
PrePlate is a restaurant booking app that allows users to pre-book and customise meals, along with booking a table. PrePlate aims to target individuals who may want to book meals or customise them in advance. This could be to save time when arriving at the restaurant, avoid feelings of anxiety when ordering in real life, or to make sure a restaurant can take out certain ingredients beforehand rather than finding out after the table has already been booked.
Research and ideation
My user persona is Nadia, a 33 year old mother of 5 year old Leo, who has autism. Leo's autism can make it difficult for him to eat at restaurants, as he is negatively impacted by loud noises and crowded spaces. Nadia finds explaining to restaurant workers which ingredients to remove or add to Leo's food can be time consuming, which impacts Leo as he becomes restless. PlePlate aims to make Nadia's restaurant experience easier for her and Leo.
After this persona was created, I had to create a needs statement and wireframes that would help create a path in my app that would help Nadia meet her needs. My needs statement became 'Nadia needs a way to pre-book a tailored meal at a new restaurant in a private room so that her son with autism can eat comfortably'.

Typefaces and accessibility
decided to use Poppins as one of my chosen typefaces. This typeface has multiple weights, making it suitable for all heading text. It’s geometric form makes it clear to read, and it’s low stroke contrast gives it a clear appearance
When applying Poppins to body text, I realised that it’s low stroke contrast and the similarity between the ‘a’ and the ‘o’ could cause confusion. Taking into account users who may have sight issues or not have English as their first language, I decided to change the body text to Inter. This typeface has a double storey ‘a’, which avoids confusion between any similar letters such as ‘o’. I remained using Poppins for all text that was not body text.
