Global Goals: Zero Hunger
About The Global Goals
The Global Goals are a set of 17 commitments made by 193 world leaders, to end extreme poverty, inequality, and climate change by 2030. I was appointed with creating assets for Global Goal 2: Zero Hunger.
Poster
Hunger is a very human thing. Unlike animals, we cannot hunt freely for our food. We have restrictions such as money and time. This is why I aimed to emphasise how hunger is human, and how people can help eachother fight against it. This allows everyone to resonate with the message and believe that they can make a difference.
Early poster ideation
Branded food packaging are not just wrappers, but they are representative of consumer culture and everyday life. We are surrounded by multiple different food brands from the shop shelves to the ones in our home, yet hunger is still a global issue. By using visual items people see everyday I aimed to draw attention to the invisible, the people who don’t access have access to these everyday items.
Using the ripped up packaging reminds the viewer of how much food goes to waste. The heart shape is universally associated with humanity, compassion, and love. Forming a heart with the ripped pieces of packaging shows that beneath systems of inequality that may lead to hunger, it is a deeply human experience. It asks the viewer to respond emotionally rather than just logically, and to feel empathy rather than just acknowledge the issue of hunger.

Different typographic treatments were experimented with for this poster. Early iterations had a lack of balance between the image and typography. Every element was large, allowing nothing to stand out.
Iterations using Oswald and letterpress type
Ultimately, smaller type was used to balance out the two main elements on the poster. The sentence case text instead of all capital makes the poster look less confrontational. Instead, I aimed to portray a sense of urgency through the scale of the heart graphic, rather than the size of the text.
Final poster
The tri-fold leaflet features the heart graphic on the cover and as a repeated pattern on the back. It also comes with a perforated bookmark with a sandwich illustration that contains reminders on how people can help tackle world hunger. This ensures people have a constant reminder with them, rather than picking up a leaflet they may only read over a few times.
